Embroidery and decorative needlework turn cloth into a carrier of identity. Motifs, colours and techniques can mark a region, a family or an occasion, and skilled needlework has long been a valued domestic art.

Like music, these patterns are transmitted within families, evolving while keeping recognisable roots.
