A growing body of Romani poetry, memoir and prose.
Although long an oral culture, Roma have built a written literature over the past century — poetry, memoir and fiction in Romani and in national languages. Writers such as the poet Papusza and the artist-author Ceija Stojka gave the Roma a printed voice, including powerful testimony of the Porajmos.
This literature is central to self-representation: the Roma telling their own stories.
