Dialects

A family of dialects spanning Europe and the diaspora.

Romani is not a single uniform tongue but a family of dialects, shaped by centuries of contact with surrounding languages. Linguists group them into broad branches — such as Vlax, Balkan, Carpathian and Sinti — though speakers from different regions can vary considerably.

Efforts at standardisation exist, but the living language remains richly diverse.
