The Balkans are home to large Roma populations and to some of the richest Roma musical traditions, from brass bands to vocal styles that have shaped the region’s wider music. Centuries under Ottoman rule and after left a complex, layered heritage.

Festivals across Serbia, North Macedonia, Bulgaria and Romania remain showcases of Balkan Roma culture.
