One of the most celebrated Romani poets.
Bronisława Wajs (c. 1908–1987), known by her Romani name Papusza ("doll"), was a Polish-Roma poet whose verses, drawn from oral tradition, became some of the most famous Romani-language poetry ever published. Largely self-taught, she gave literary voice to Roma life and memory.
Her work brought both fame and painful estrangement from parts of her own community.
